Cooper to go under the knife

Colm Cooper is expected to miss the early rounds of the Allianz Football League when he undergoes surgery next week.

Cooper is expected to play for Dr Crokes against Legion in the O’Donoghue Cup semi-final before undergoing surgery on a troublesome shoulder injury at the Santry Sports Clinic.

News on Cooper's surgery comes as it emerged that James O'Donoghue had an operation on his shoulder problem on Monday with the Legion clubman set to be out for several months, which will rule him out of the entire league campaign.

Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice could be without a number of players for the early rounds of the league with Anthony Maher, Paul Geaney and Peter Crowley all set to miss the opening games because of operations, while Bryan Sheehan could miss out due to his involvement with St Mary's.
