Tiger Woods missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open on his first PGA Tour appearance for 17 months.
Woods laboured to a four-over 76 in the opening round on the more difficult South Course at Torrey Pines, and followed it up with a 72 on the North Course, to leave him four shots above the level-par cut line.
"It's frustrating, not being able to have a chance to win the tournament," he said.
The 41-year-old, who has won the event eight times, is not the only big name with an unexpected free weekend, with world number Jason Day and world number Dustin Johnson also missing the cut at the San Diego tournament.
Woods, who takes part in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic next week, says he will travel to the Gulf in good spirits after his level-par second round.
"Overall today was a lot better than yesterday. I hit it better, I putted well again," Woods said.
"I hit a lot of beautiful putts that didn't go in. But I hit it a lot better today which was nice.
"Playing tournament golf is a bit different to playing with your buddies in a cart. I need to get more rounds under my belt and more playing time and that's what I'm trying to do,"
