Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve a three-match ban after accepting a Football Association charge.
The Manchester United midfielder was charged following an incident during his side's 0-0 draw with West Ham at Old Trafford when the German international appeared to strike Hammers defender Winston Reid.
Referee Mark Clattenburg and his assistants missed the altercation and the FA subsequently opted to take retrospective action for an "alleged act of violent conduct".
He had the option of appealing but he has decided to accept the charge.
The three-match suspension comes into effect immediately with Schweinsteiger missing the games against Bournemouth, Norwich and Stoke.
