Van Gaal plays down Giggs speculation

Louis van Gaal will speak to Ryan Giggs regarding speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Swansea.

Several of Friday's newspapers reported that Swansea were interested in talking to Giggs about the possibility of replacing Garry Monk, who was sacked on Wednesday after just one win in 11 fixtures.

Giggs managed Manchester United for the final four games of the 2013-14 season following David Moyes' departure before agreeing to become Van Gaal's number two.

Van Gaal has yet to speak to Giggs about the speculation but insists there is little point in worrying about it because it is currently an 'if' situation.

"First I have to speak to Ryan Giggs by himself if it's true," Van Gaal told reporters at his weekly press conference.

"And [in that case], he's coming to me. I never read papers and I think that it's the truth. I'm sorry.

"I cannot speak about 'if'. The 'if' situations."
