Agbonlahor to undergo fitness programme

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Adbonlahor will miss the next fortnight to undergo a personal fitness programme.

Agbonlahor missed the defeat to Chelsea while an investigation into his conduct was held and was subsequently ruled out of last weekend's loss to Bournemouth with a virus.

Caretaker manager Eric Black had expected to have the striker available for the trip to Manchester United on Saturday but he will not feature for the next two weeks in order for him to work on his fitness.

"Last week I didn't want Gabby to come in with a virus and be around the other players," Black explained.

"Gabby and I had a meeting on Monday. We've decided he'll work separately from the group and work on his own fitness programme. He'll follow that for the next 14 days. We felt together he needs to improve his fitness."

As well as the trip to Old Trafford, Agbonlahor could miss the games against Southampton and Watford, while a decision will be made on whether to bring him back for the final two games against Newcastle and Arsenal.
