Alderweireld happy at Spurs despite contract delay
Tottenham defener Toby Alderweireld has insisted he’s happy at the club despite his contract talks continuing to drag on.
The Belgian international has been in talks with Spurs since last December and has still not managed to find a deal that both find acceptable. The 28-year-old was questioned on the issue by the press while on international duty this week and responded by saying: "I had a good conversation with the manager. I told him I'm focused on football, to keep my game up and help the team.
"That's all I can do. You can see I'm happy there, and I try to help the team, and that's the way I always play football.
"No [I haven't been offered a new deal yet]. Like I said, I am focused on football. The rest, I don't know, we will see about that."
Alderweireld’s curent deal runs until June 2019; however, the player’s agent has been pressing for a long extension in order to cement the Belgian’s role as a senior figure at the club.
