All Blacks will contest Cane citing

Robbie Henshaw left pitch on stretcher following Cane tackle

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen says the All Blacks will contest the citing of Sam Cane for a high tackle on Robbie Henshaw.

New Zealand pair Malakai Fekitoa and Sam Cane will face disciplinary hearings on Tuesday after being cited for tackles during the All Blacks' 21-9 victory over Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.

Cane has been cited for the high tackle which brought a premature end to Henshaw's afternoon, while Fekitoa, who scored two tries against the Irish, has been reported for a high tackle on Simon Zebo.

"[Fekitoa]’s challenge was clumsy and high, but we will defend Sam’s - we believe it was a head clash," Hansen told a news conference after Saturday's match.

"We can understand why the citing commissioner wants to cite it, a guy got knocked out. We’ll go there and get a good hearing, I’m hoping, and go from there."

Flanker Cane and full-back Ben Smith were injured in the win over Joe Schmidt's side in Dublin, and will miss Saturday's match against France at the Stade de France.

Smith suffered a compound fracture in his finger, Cane sprained his ankle, while lock Patrick Tuipulotu had also left the squad for "personal reasons" and returned to New Zealand.
