Allardyce: We are under pressure

Sam Allardyce feels Sunderland can get the wins they need to avoid stay in the Premier League if they can cope with the pressure of the relegation battle.

Sunderland are third from bottom in the table, four points off 17th-place Norwich, but they have a game in hand on their rivals and still have to face the Canaries at Carrow Road.

Time is running out for the Black Cats to get the points they need to beat the drop and face a tricky test on Sunday when they host Premier League leaders Leicester at the Stadium of Light.

They are unbeaten in four games - Saturday 0-0 against West Brome was their fourth successive draw - and Allardyce believes they can pick up victories, as long as they managing the increasing pressure.

"With seven games to go we have a game in hand and we have to play Norwich. The pressure on us increases but I just hope we continue to handle that pressure like we did on Saturday, and see it through to getting the victories we need," Allardyce told the club's official website.

"When we play Leicester it is a victory we need against a team at the top of the table, and then when we come up against Norwich it is probably a win we need again.

"We took the game to West Brom, particularly in the second half, with composure, ability, style and the right application; there was nothing desperate we just kept playing and searching but when we finally got chance after chance we couldn’t convert one past Ben Foster.

"I’ve never seen a team create as many chances and cope with the pressure we were under on Saturday. Every man was outstanding."
