Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli defended manager Mauricio Pocchetino's decision to play him in a more withdrawn role against Monaco at Wembley.
Tottenham were 2-1 down at half-time against the French Ligue Un side in their Champions League Group E opener at Wembley on Wednesday, with Leonardo Jardim's side causing havoc on the counter-attack against a flat-footed and ponderous Spurs.
The Premier League side looked far more assured in the second half, after Pochettino brought on Mousa Dembele to allow Alli to push forward, but the 20-year-old England star insists that the eventual 2-1 defeat cannot be put down to his being played out of position.
"I'll play wherever the manager wants me to, it's not a problem," Alli said.
"We started poorly and they punished us for it. We did enough to win the game but we didn't take our chances.
"Monaco are a good team but we weren't ruthless enough. The fans came out in numbers and never stopped singing. We need to pick ourselves up and win the next game."
