Alli to escape punishment

Dele Alli is to escape sanction despite appearing to kick Nenad Tomovic during Tottenham's Europa League tie against Fiorentina on Thursday.

Alli fouled Tomovic during the game at the Stadio Artemio Franch and appeared to catch his opponent with his boot while on the ground.

The Spurs midfielder was shown a yellow card for the incident but he will not face further punishment because the matter was dealt with at the time by the referee.

Speaking after the game manager Mauricio Pochettino vowed to speak to the player, saying: "We need to look at the video and try to teach him.

"He is a young player and he has a lot to learn about elite football. It is his first season in the Premier League at Tottenham.

"He came from League One, he needs to still learn a lot. But I didn't see (the incident). Some people say 'yes', some say 'no', so I don't know."
