Bayern Munich midfielder Xavi Alonso is to retire at the end of the season when his contract expires, according to reports.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid player has not signed a new contract with the Bundesliga champions and will call time on his illustrious career at the end of the current campaign, Bild has reported.
Alonso moved to the Allianz Arena from Real Madrid in 2014 and is a firm favourite with the club's fans having won two Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and the German Super Cup.
The Spain international, who has a World Cup and two European Championship medals, is fondly remembered by Liverpool fans following his five-year spell at Anfield.
Alonso won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FA Cup during his time at Liverpool before moving to Real Madrid in a £30million deal. While at the Bernabeu he won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey twice, the Supercopa and was a member of the team when Real won La Decima, their tenth Champions League win.
