Anderson to face Cadby in Brisbane

Two-time world champion Gary Anderson is set to lock horns with Aussie sensation Corey Cadby in the first round of the 2019 Brisbane Darts Masters which starts tomorrow.

This is the second year that the PDC World Series of Darts, the biggest professional darts tour in the world, will visit Brisbane and record crowds are expected on both days.

The format, which sees eight of the top PDC players, take on eight regional qualifiers, has proven a huge success as it gives local arrow men the chance to make their mark against some of the biggest names in the sport.

The draw for the Brisbane event (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 10am Friday and Saturday) also sees home favourite Kyle Anderson take on German Darts Masters champion Peter Wright.

Cadby and double world champion Anderson meet for the first time since the since the 2018 UK Open final which Anderson won.

“I’m looking forward to playing Corey again, he’s a great lad and a talented player so having a go at him in front of an Australian crowd should be great,” Anderson said.

Former World Youth Champion Cadby is also relishing the clash on Friday. “Gary is one of the best players ever but I believe I can be as good and have to take my chances when we are on stage,” the 24-year-old said.

“I’m a proud Aussie and hopefully the crowd will give me the extra boost I need.”

Reigning champion and newly- crowned World Matchplay winner Rob Cross will face James Bailey, while former World Grand Prix champion Daryl Gurney takes on Koha Kokiri.

World number one Michael van Gerwen will hope to return to form after disappointment at the World Matchplay when he takes on Ben Robb, while Raymond van Barneveld begins his final competitive trip to Australia by taking on New Zealand World Cup star Haupai Puha.
