Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Harry Kane is set for spell on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage.
Kane scored Tottenham's only goal as they defeated Sunderland on Sunday but the England international was unable to finish the match after suffering an injury in a challenge with Papy Djilobodji late on.
The club have been unable to get a definitive prognosis on the injury due to swelling but there are fears the 23-year-old could be ruled out for up to eight weeks.
"He got a ligament ankle problem and we need to assess every day and see," Pochettino said.
"Today it's impossible to give a time for a recovery. I am not a doctor. I can only explain what the doctors said to me.
"He is in a very good mood. We chatted before in the restaurant, he's in a very good way.
"There are different rumours, we cannot guess whether it's eight weeks, 10, four, one. It's impossible to assess today and know how long."
While Pochettino has refused to put a timeframe on Kane's return, the striker is almost certain to miss the games against Middlesbrough, CSKA Moscow and Manchester City before the international break.
