Gareth Bale has emerged as a major doubt for Wales for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on March 24.
Bale was initially ruled out for three months when he underwent surgery to treat the ankle injury he sustained Real Madrid's Champions League tie against Sporting Lisbon last month.
However, it has been reported that the injury was found to be more severe than originally diagnosed and early indications are that the 27-year-old will not be ready to return until April, which would rule him out of the qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.
Wales have only picked up six points from their opening four games in Group D to sit four points behind Martin O'Neill's men.
