Balotelli could return to Anfield

Mario Balotelli could be on his way back to Liverpool after a disappointing season in Serie A.

After failing to impress during his first season at Anfield, Balotelli moved to AC Milan on a season-long loan only to struggle on his return to the San Siro with just one goal in 20 league appearances.

Despite starting Milan's last two league matches, Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has indicated that the Serie A club will not be taking up the option to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent deal.

"There will be many departures because players such as Alex, [Philippe] Mexes, [Kevin-Prince] Boateng and Balotelli are at the end of their contracts," Berlusconi is quoted as saying in Gazzetta dello Sport.

Balotelli’s poor form resulted in him being left out of Italy’s squad for Euro 2016.
