Benitez calls for belief

Rafael Benitez insists Newcastle can beat Manchester City if they believe like they did against Swansea.

The Magpies claimed three points on Saturday to give them a glimmer of hope in their battle against relegation but they face a difficult evening on Tuesday when Manchester City visit St James's Palace.

They remain one place off the bottom, two points behind rivals Sunderland, but Benitez believes they can defeat City because they have nothing to lose.

"Manchester City are a team who are doing so well in Champions League and have many good players. We have to be ready for a difficult game," Benitez told his pre-match press conference.

"We all have to stick together, work hard and try to get three points in this game.

"If we believe like we did against Swansea then we can beat anyone. We have nothing to lose at the moment and we have confidence."

Benitez will be without Fabricio Coloccini and Daryl Janmaat for the game but he expects the rest of the squad to be available.

"There are some knocks but they will be fine. We still don’t have Coloccini and Janmaat. (Kevin) Mbabu is very close," he stated.

"I still don’t have the team decided so you can keep guessing for another day."
