Ian Bermingham felt everyone involved at St. Patrick's Athletic were determined not to "let the club get relegated" after he inspired a come-from-behind win over champions Cork City at Richmond Park.
The visitors stormed into an early 2-0 lead through efforts from Ryan Delaney and Kieran Sadlier but replies from Jordi Balk and former Cork winger Billy Dennehy saw the sides go into the break all square.
Bermingham then put the hosts ahead just after the hour-mark before Kurtis Byrne wrapped up the victory near the end with a lovely finish.
"Delighted," he told eir Sport. "We’d a job to do tonight, they [Cork] won the league, congratulations but we were in our own predicament tonight. Thankfully we got the win and we’re delighted with it.
"They’ve [the fans] been brilliant all season for us. This club, it’s a great club. We knew what we had to do tonight, we can’t let this club get relegated.
"I don’t know how the other games have gone tonight but we have to go to Derry next week and get the win. Delighted to get in there [to score his side's third goal]. I’ve got a couple this season, obviously I’m delighted to chip in.
