Bernard Flynn has insisted that Jim Gavin’s decision to rest his All-Ireland winning players in the O’Byrne Cup upset Dublin’s rivals.
Paul Clarke took charge temporarily as a second-string Dublin side emerged winners of the competition, while Gavin and the rest of his squad spent time in Jamaica.
The Boys-in-Blue travel to Cavan this Sunday for their Allianz League as they look to claim their fifth successive League title.
Flynn backed up Gavin’s decision, and insisted Dublin have bigger targets other than another league title.
"I don’t think they want the five-in-a-row, I think they want the three-in-a-row and that’s the All-Ireland series", the former Meath player said.
"What a defiant statement to put out a completely different squad out to win the O’Byrne Cup, while the main squad were at a training camp last weekend."
The 52-year-old admitted he is looking forward to start of the league campaign.
"In the four Division One this weekend, you are looking at 40,000-plus attending the games. It’s great. Everyone’s mad keen for a bit of football this time of year."
