Besic out for six months

Everton's preparations for the new season have been dealt a blow with the news that Muhamed Besic has been ruled out for six months because of a knee injury.

Besic was injured during Wayne Rooney's Testimonial at Old Trafford on Wednesday and a scan the following day confirmed the worst.

"6 months out! #devastated," Besic tweeted on Friday morning.

The Bosnia international has struggled to break into the Everton first-team due to a series of injuries. A hamstring problem sustained in his first Premier League appearance last season kept him sidelined for three months before he missed a further two months with the same problem later in the season.

His latest injury setback will keep the 23-year-old out until February.
