Everton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed Yannick Bolasie could be sidelined until 2018 as he recovers from a serious knee injury.
Bolasie damaged the anterior ligament in his right knee in a challenge with Anthony Martial during Everton's 1-1 draw with Manchester United last month and has already undergone the first of two operations.
It was hoped that the DR Congo international would be ready to return during the early stages of the 2017-18 season but Koeman told the club's annual general meeting that he will be out for up to 12 months.
“He’s optimistic, it was difficult because it is a really long-term injury, he will be around 10,11, 12 months and that is really disappointing,” Koeman said.
“First for the player, and then for the club and also the manager because he was one of the good signings that the club made this summer.
“But, ok, he’s still 27-year-old, he will come back, he has a strong mentality and we are looking forward to when he is back on the pitch.”
