South African out-half Marnitz Boshoff has "a good chance" of making his Connacht debut against Cardiff Blues on Friday evening.
Boshoff only arrived in the West of Ireland a few weeks ago, after helping the Golden Lions reach the semi-finals of the Currie Cup, but head coach Pat Lam says the 27-year-old has worked well with his new team-mates in training, and may feature at the Sportsground on Friday.
"Yeah, good chance," said Lam when asked if the South Africa international could play against Danny Wilson's side.
"He has fitted in really well on and off the field. He is getting more and more confident, last week at training too, it was a really good pre-season week.
"We could do things that we don’t normally do in-season and he could get up to speed. There is a much better understanding so he has put himself in contention now.
“He is ready to go, knows the boys and knows the plays but he needs to get out and play a game too."
Andrew Browne (ankle), Rory Moloney (concussion), Eoghan Masterson (knee), Shane O'Leary (concussion), Eoin Griffin (chest), Josh Rowland (ankle) and Darragh Leader (hand) are not available for the match against Cardiff, but Tom McCartney, Denis Buckley, Ronan Loughney, Sean O'Brien, Nepia Fox-Matamua, John Cooney and Matt Healy have all returned to full training and could come into contention.
