Stephen Bradley believes the Shamrock Rovers players' self-belief was crucial as they saw off Stjarnan at Tallaght Stadium, advancing 2-0 on aggregate to book their spot in the Europa League second qualifying round.
A first-half strike from Graham Burke helped the Hoops to a one-goal win on the night, setting up a second-round clash with Czech side Mlada Boleslav.
Rovers boss Bradley feels his side's self-belief was crucial in the win, while he also praised Ronan Finn's leadership skills.
"Yes, delighted with the result, our first-half performance was good," he told eir Sport.
"We defended well as a team, we could have attacked more, but it was good to see out the game.
"The talk during the week was go and believe in ourselves, we did that over there [Iceland] and I thought we caused them a lot of problems.
"Thankfully we believed and we looked a real threat going forward in the first-half.
"Me and Ronan have chats on how to get the young players through these games, he has 31 caps in Europe and he has been brilliant all week in the dressing room, making sure the young lads were ready for tonight.
"It's a new group of players, winning tonight is massive for this group, and we're looking forward to the next round."
