Brave 13: Mlambo hoping for quick knockout

Dublin's Frans Mlambo says he's "looking to go in there and get out straightaway" when he takes on Stephen Loman at Brave 13 in Belfast on Saturday.

Filipino Loman will defend his bantamweight title against South Africa-born Irish challenger Mlambo at Brave 13: Europe Evolution on Saturday, a bout which will be shown live on eir sport 1 [coverage begins 8.30pm].

Mlambo, who is a member of the SBG Ireland team and is coached by John Kavanagh, lost to Loman in Brave 1 in Bahrain in September 2016.

But Mlambo has won his last three fights, two of them by first-round knockout, and believes he is capable of avenging that defeat in Bahrain by beating Loman at the SSE Arena on Saturday.

"That last fight was exciting, the fight of the night," Mlambo told BBC NI.

"This time, both of us have improved, and it is for a title.

"It's a five-round fight but I won't be going in there to waste time.

"I'll try and go in there and get out straight away. There's going to be fireworks - it will be an exciting fight."

Mlambo says the prospect of fighting for a title belt makes Saturday's fight hugely significant, even if the Brave Combat Federation lacks the prestige of the Ultimate Fighting Championship [UFC].

"The UFC is the bigger platform, with a bigger fanbase and the fighters are paid more," he continued.

"But we are a serious about this as we would be in the UFC. This is a big one, a fight for a title he is defending and I am trying to get.

"I don't think we would feel any different even if we were on a bigger platform."

Northern Ireland will be the ninth country to host a Brave Combat Federation, after Bahrain, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, India, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Jordan, and Indonesia.
