Byrne ruled out for several months

Leinster have been dealt a significant injury blow with news that winger Adam Byrne will be out for several months after undergoing surgery for a quad injury.

The 26-year-old hasn't played for the province since December 2019 after suffering a serious hamstring injury, but was reported to be nearing a return before this latest blow.

There is more bad news for the Blues as back Tommy O'Brien will be out for several weeks longer than expected after suffering a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old former Blackrock College student had been close to a full recovery from an ankle issue.

Head coach Leo Cullen should have some additional options at his disposal for Sunday's crucial clash against Glasgow Warriors at the RDS (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 5pm) as both Jimmy O’Brien and Ciaran Frawley have returned to full training.

Scott Fardy is undergoing return-to-play protocols after suffering a head injury in last weekend's 35-29 victory over Dragons at Rodney Parade, with Michael Bent also expected to be available after missing the trip to Wales for personal reasons.
