Capri held off the challenge off Cracksman and Derby winner Wings of Eagles to secure a third Irish Derby success for jockey Seamie Heffernan.
It was a 12th Irish Derby success for trainer Aidan O'Brien, and an 18th for the Ballydoyle stable.
"I had the ammunition - he's been tough, coming out of those hard races well," Heffernan, back-to-back winner in 2007 and 2008 on Soldier Of Fortune and Frozen Fire, told RTE Racing.
"I was pretty confident when he came out. Aidan trains horses from race to race, and to keep improving, and usually they do.
"It was a nice surprise, and I can't wait for the fourth [Irish Derby victory]"
Trainer O'Brien, who believes the Curragh course is " the fairest track in the world", says Heffernan rode the son of Galieo and Dialafara perfectly.
"Seamie always had a lot of faith in the horse," trainer O'Brien said.
"Seamie rode him in Epson, and this is the horse he wanted to ride, even after Epsom [and Capri's sixth-place finish]. He's a very brave horse, gets it well, a very hardy in a strong-run race."
