Carbery out of Argentina game with broken wrist

Irish Rugby have confirmed that Leinster back Joey Carbery suffered a fractured left wrist during Saturday's 23-20 Test win over Fiji at the Aviva Stadium.

The 22-year-old will miss Ireland's final November international against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, and is likely to be sidelined for Leinster's home and away European Rugby Champions Cup ties against the Exeter Chiefs on 10 and 16 December.

Irish Ruby also confirmed that Munster prop John Ryan has returned to Ireland's training camp at Carton House after missing the win over Fiji with a calf injury.

"Joey Carbery suffered a fractured wrist and has been ruled out of the remaining fixture of the series," an IRFU statement read.

"John Ryan has returned to the Ireland squad having completed his rehab on a calf injury in Munster last week.

"The players who featured against Fiji presented with the usual bumps and bruises post match but are expected to be fit to train this week."

Leinster senior coach Stuart Lancaster expressed sympathy for Carbery, who was playing at out-half rather than his usual full-back position, for coming off so badly from the tackle by Fiji prop Peni Ravai.

"If you watch Owen Farrell, if you watch Johnny Sexton, if you watch Joey Carbery, they all take it to the line and that's the risk they run as a playmaker at ten," Lancaster said.

"It was a really unfortunate one. He got some big hits and some hits in that Fiji game were as big as I've seen. He was unfortunate on that one really."
