Michael Carrick has signed a new one-year contract according to Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos.
The midfielder looked set to depart Old Trafford after 10 trophy-laden years but new manager Jose Mourinho is a fan of the cultured player and has offered him the chance to stay at the club.
Former West Ham team-mate Richard Garcia, who was best man at Carrick's wedding, now plays with Perth and enquired about his friend joining him in the A-League.
But according to Filopoulos the proposed move will not take place as the 34-year-old has extended his stay in Manchester.
"It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia's relationship with Michael," he told FourFourTwo.
"Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United.
"We understand he's now secured an extension with Manchester United so that's off the table.
"It's certainly was an option to him and his family for lifestyle reasons."
