Celtic sign Sinclair from Aston Villa

Celtic have completed the £3.5m signing of winger Scott Sinclair from Aston Villa on a four-year deal.

The 27-year-old goes straight into the Celtic squad for their league opener with Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon, with boss Brendan Rodgers desperate for cover on the flanks following injuries to Patrick Roberts and Gary Mackay-Steven.

"I can't wait to get on the pitch. When I went back to Aston Villa for pre-season, I heard Celtic were interested, and I just knew I had to come here," Sinclair told the Celtic website.

"I had to look at this move and I thought it would be great for me. And because I know the manager and I know what to expect, hopefully I can get off to a flying start."

Sinclair worked under Rodgers as a youth-team player at Chelsea, and was reunited with the Ulsterman at Swansea City in 2010.

“The manager had a great influence when I was at Swansea and that’s when I played my best football," he continued.,

"Hopefully now I can get the best football out of me and get my form back out there and score goals and perform."

The Bath-born winger says the lure of the Champion League was a major factor is his decision to move to the Scottish champions.

The Bhoys face Israel's Hapoel Beer Sheva in the first leg of their Champions League play-off round on 17 August.

"I watched the FC Astana [Champions League qualifier] game in midweek and the atmosphere was incredible," he continud.

"To have the possibility of Champions League excites me and I can’t wait to come here and play at Celtic Park and for it to be rocking."
