Champions League round-up; Foxes win, Spurs draw

Leicester City have edged closer to qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League after beating FC Copenhagen 1-0 at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes made it three wins from three to establish a five-point gap at the top of Group G with the Danish side in second place and Porto a point further behind in third.

But it was far from straightforward for Claudio Ranieri's men as the visitors dominated for large spells and had some great opportunities to beat Kasper Schmeichel.

However, the hosts went ahead on 40 minutes against the run of play when Riyad Mahrez volleyed home a fine finish with the outside of his boot.

Leicester improved a little after the break and thought they had sealed the three points when Islam Slimani found the back of the net at the second attempt after Marc Albrighton's cross had found the big forward but the linesman's flag was raised for offside.

Copenhagen had a good chance to equalise late on but Leicester were not to be denied and a victory in the return fixture next time out will book their place in the last 16.

Tottenham Hotspur had goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to thank for escaping Germany with a point as he made a string of saves to secure a 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the Bayer Arena.

Mauricio Pochettino's side dominated the first period and came close to scoring on a number of occasions, Dele Alli headed wide when unmarked eight yards out, Vincent Janssen rattled the crossbar while Erik Lamela's effort was superbly saved.

However, the second half saw a complete turnaround with the hosts creating a string of chances but found Lloris in stunning form.

The France international produced a magical save to deny Javier Hernandez's close-range effort - the former Manchester United striker should have buried the chance - while he made several smart stops including from Stefan Kiessling and Charles Aranguiz.

The game become stretched in the closing stages but neither side was able to break the deadlock.

The draw leaves Spurs in second place in Group E, one point behind leaders Monaco with Leverkusen a point behind the English side.
