Chelsea have agreed a £33.4m deal to sign Roma centre-back Antonio Rudiger, according to reports.
Sky Italia are claiming the London club have agreed a fee with their Serie A counterparts and have finalised personal terms with the Germany international.
The Premier League champions will pay £29m up front with another £4.4m dependent on certain targets being achieved.
The deal would ensure Roma made a huge profit on the former Stuttgart player after they signed him from the latter for just £7.6m 12 months ago.
Having sold Nathan Ake to Bournemouth for a scarcely believable £20m and after long-time captain John Terry departed Stamford Bridge on a free, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is desperate for defensive reinforcements as he looks to strengthen the squad for their return to the Champions League next season.
Rudiger had initially joined Roma on-loan in September 2015 and after proving a success, he signed on full-time making a total of 72 appearances.
The move means that long-term link, Virgil Van Dijk, will not join from Southampton.
