Chelsea will not go down - Wenger

Chelsea will not be dragged into a relegation battle despite currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has declared.

The reigning champions have suffered nine defeats in 16 league games this season and with the team just one point above the relegation zone. Indeed, they will find themselves in the bottom three if they lose to fellow strugglers Sunderland and other results go against them at the weekend.

The situation has thrown Jose Mourinho's future into doubt but Wenger believes there is little chance of the Blues being relegated from the Premier League.

"If you ask me, objectively, if Chelsea will be fighting to go down then I say: no chance," Wenger. "Because of the quality of their team.

"They are going through a difficult spell but they are not in a relegation battle.

"But I do not want to assess any other things over at Chelsea. My problem is not them, my problem is the game against Manchester City on Monday night."
