Chelsea had captain John Terry sent off but still cruised to a 4-1 FA Cup third-round win over Peterborough United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Chelsea were already 3-0 up thanks to goals from Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Willian, when last man Terry was sent off for a desparate tackle on Lee Angol midway through the second half.
The red card, Terry's second in his last six starts, gave the League One side a fillip, and they pulled a goal back through Tom Nichols on 70 minutes.
But Pedro calmed any nerves at Stamford Bridge with his second goal of the afternoon four minutes later, following a sharp one-two with Batshuayi.
Middlesbrough will join Chelsea in Monday night's FA Cup fourth round draw, following their 3-0 victory over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside.
The Premier League side took the lead on 58 minutes through Grant Leadbitter, but Aitor Karanka's side were reduced to 10 men just a minute later after Daniel Ayala's red card.
Carlos Carvalhal's side were unable to gain a foothold in the game despite the man advantage, however, with Alvaro Negredo netting Boro's second midway through the second half, and Marten de Roon wrapping up the scoring in injury-time.
