Christmas on the eir sport pack

There is something for everyone on the eir sport pack over the Christmas period, including Boxing, UFC, rugby, GAA, Soccer and documentaries.

Boxing & UFC

On Christmas Day, ‘The Road to Klitschko’ takes viewers behind the scenes on the rise of Anthony Joshua that lead him to the epic fight against Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium (eir sport 1 10.30pm). Meanwhile, BT Sport 1 is showing the Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder heavyweight clash which ended in a controversial draw at the start of the month (BT Sport 1 7.45pm).

The UFC 232 battle between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson for the Light Heavyweight title in Las Vegas will take place on Saturday, 29th December. Coverage gets underway on BT Sport 2 at 1am.


It is a busy time for the provinces in the Guinness PRO14, kicking off with the meeting of Ulster and Munster at Kingspan Stadium on Friday, 21 December, live on eir sport 1 at 7pm. The following day, Leinster host Connacht at the RDS at 7pm, following the games between Ospreys v Scarlets at 2.30pm and Edinburgh v Glasgow at 5pm. Both fixtures available to view on eir sport 2.

The action returns on Friday, 28 December as Connacht host Ulster at 7pm on eir sport 1 before Benetton v Zebre on Saturday, 29 December at 1.55pm and Munster v Leinster at 4.15pm. Both games will be live on eir sport 1. Over on eir sport 2, Glasgow v Edinburgh at 2.30pm and Scarlets v Cardiff will be shown at 5pm.


On the 26th December, Celtic face Aberdeen in the Pittodrie Stadium at 1.45pm and Liverpool v Arsenal at 5.30pm on the 29th December. Both games to be shown on BT Sport.


eir sport have several documentaries covering a range of sports for viewers over the Christmas period. The Head2Head series will be shown on consecutive nights beginning with Tomas Ó Sé sitting down with Eamon Dunphy on Christmas Eve, New Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is featured on Christmas Day with Ruby Walsh on St Stephen's Day, Graeme Souness on December 27 and Robbie Keane on December 28.

There is a treat for Dublin and Kerry fans on Christmas Eve as ‘Dublin v Kerry Classic GAA night’ gets underway on eir sport 1 at 5.30pm.

On Christmas Day, a documentary on the spiritual home of rugby in Limerick and Munster ‘Thomond Park’ will be shown on eir sport 1 at 7.30pm, which will be followed by ‘A Year to Remember’ where Connor Morris will be joined by Journalists Gerry Thornley, Ruaidhrí O’Connor and Cian Tracey to reflect on a year of unprecedented success for Irish rugby both at club and international level.

At 9pm on the same night, eir sport 1 will look back at a golden age in Irish football in 1997 where the Boys in Green finished third in the FIFA World Youth Championships in Malaysia. ‘Kerr’s Kids Irish Football’s Golden Generation’ documentary will feature interviews with Brian Kerr, Robbie Keane, Damien Duff and John O’Shea.

on St Stephen's Day, eir sport 1 have two more documentaries to offer viewers; A ‘Treat from the Treaty county’ will see Aaron Gillane and Shane Dowling join Damian Lawlor to look back at a memorable year for Limerick Hurling at 8pm.

Dhá Chúirt will be shown later that evening at 11pm. This is about the story of the Irishman Thomas Vere St. Ledger who got to the 1879 Wimbledon final. However, by 1908 he was convicted along with his wife of one of the most brutal murders in French history.
