Ciara Mageean wins 1500m bronze for Ireland

Ciara Mageean has won a bronze medal for Ireland after producing a brilliant finish in the final of the Women's European Championships 1500m in Amsterdam

Mageean claimed her medal in a time of 4:33.78 and she almost nabbed the silver, dipping at the line but, agonisingly, 0.02 of a second behind second placed Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.

Poland's Angelika Cichocka won gold in a time of 4:33.00.

Mageean had plenty left in the tank as the race entered its final 100m, having appeared to be boxed in on the inside lane in the closing stages, but finding a gap and storming through to grab the bronze.

Norway's Ingvill Makestad Bovim fell back into fourth place as a result of Mageean's late burst.
