Vincent Kompany suffered an injury scare in his first start of the season as Manchester City defeated Swansea in the EFL Cup.
On his first appearance since suffering a thigh injury in City's Champions League semi-final defeat by Real Madrid on May 4, Kompany left the pitch by his own choice in the latter stages of his side's 2-1 victory.
Manager Pep Guardiola was unable to bring on a replacement as he had already used up all three substitutions and he is hoping the injury will not be a big problem for the club captain.
"The doctors are speaking with him and seeing what's up," Guardiola told reporters. "Hopefully, it will not be a big problem. We're going to wait for the results from the doctors."
"(His performance) was good. It's not easy after a long, long time without playing. Defensively, he was so strong - he played really good."
Kompany left the pitch shortly after Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled on back for Swansea in injury time and Guardiola accepts he had little choice but to stop playing.
"Once they scored the goal, after I said: 'What happened?' They said that Vincent had gone to the locker room. Hopefully, it will not be a big problem. We will have to wait," the City manager explained.
"If he's injured, he's injured. He cannot stay on the pitch."
