Cody keen for Galway to stay

Brian Cody wants Galway to remain part of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship and is open to the idea of having to travel west to play the Tribesmen.

Galway have played in the Leinster SHC since 2009 but their minor and Under-21 side have not been afforded the same opportunity and on Monday night clubs unanimously voted in favour of pursuing a single provincial structure.

Part of the motion also called for Galway to look for inclusion in the Munster championship from 2018 but Cody believes they should remain part of Leinster and should be allowed to compete in underage competitions.

"I think it would be fair. It's been beneficial for sure for Leinster," Cody is quoted as saying in The Irish Sun.

"Galway are a top team and having them over there on their own with regards to senior inter-county matches is certainly not ideal for them.

"And for hurling in general, they've been a huge part of the Leinster Championship. I'd prefer to see them stay."

Galway have been forced to play all of their games in the east of the country but Cody insists he would be happy to face them in Pearse Stadium.

"Wherever the match is fixed for, we’ll play, simple as that. That'll be it," the Kilkenny manager said.
