Cody praises Fennelly following qualifier victory

Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody was rejoicing at having his star man Michael Fennelly back in midfield for the Cats 0-20 to 0-17 victory over Limerick in round one of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship qualifiers.

Speaking post-match, Cody commented: “It was terrific to have Michael Fennelly back at midfield, you can see what he does and how he does it.

“He was excellent, there was no doubt about that, he’s had a tough time with injuries so hopefully be can keep going.”

Cody also praised Limerick for a performance that very much tested Kilkenny as they look to put their All-Ireland campaign back on track.

“Obviously, the result was everything,” said Cody.

“It was a serious battle, they were very strong. That was not a surprise, the last day against Clare they were very strong too.

“We were expecting a huge battle, we got a huge battle, obviously, the object of the exercise was to win the game and play next weekend.”
