Conlan looking to KO Guzman

Belfast boxer says he is "not getting paid for overtime"

Michael Conlan is looking to knock out Kenny Guzman in Saturday's morning super bantamweight fight in Arizona because he is "not getting paid for overtime".

The 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner, 25, who has won all three of his fights as a professional by knockout, takes on Montana-based Guzman, 30, who has also won all three of his fights as a professional.

"I have only seen a 40-second clip of Kenny Guzman, so I don't know much about him," he told the Obviously Fight Talk podcast ahead of the fight at the Tucson Convention Centre, which will be shown live on BoxNation in the early hours of Saturday, 23 September [2am start]..

"I know he is undefeated, and I know he is coming to win, but I don't care what he plans to do, or what his record is. I am in going in to my job. I am not getting paid for overtime so I am going for the TKO [technical knock out]."

Former world amateur champion Conlan, who turned professional after the Rio 2016 Olympics, says he is slowing adapting to the demands of the pro game.

"Little by little on everything [I am adapting], but it takes time," he continued.

"I have been an amateur boxer all my life, it takes time to adjust, but I feel it is all coming together now.

"I am not the finished article yet, but I soon will be."

The Conlan v Guzman bout is on the undercard of two world title fights taking place at the Tucson Convention Centre, all of which will be shown live on BoxNation in the early hours of Saturday, 23 September [2am start].
