Conlan and Owen shared a largely even opening round at the Suncorp Stadium, with Conlan switching to southpaw during that first round as he attemped to outfox his Australian foe, before landing a body-head combo that had Owen rattled in the second.
Owen remained standing during the break between the second the the third rounds and came out to another fierce attack from Conlan. A body shot, and hard left from Conlan, followed a series of combinations from Conlan had Owen in serious trouble. The Aussie stayed upright but was unable to defend himself, with referee Tony Kettlewell calling a halt to proceedings.
Post-fight, Conlan said: “It’s an amazing atmosphere, an amazing amount of Irish here so I have to give my country credit.
“I think we’re looking at 22 September for the next one and I’ll be looking for a better performance than this one. Every performance is getting a little bit better and better.”
