Connacht defeat Ospreys in Galway

Westerners six points clear in Pro12

Connacht extended their lead at the top of the Pro12 to six points with a 30-22 victory over the Ospreys at the Galway Sportsgrounds.

However, Pat Lam's men have played two more games that Leinster and one more than the Scarlets, who are both on 48 points and the leaders' chief pursuers.

Connacht went over in the opening minute through Bundee Aki, before Alan MacGinty and Matt Healy also grabbed scores, but the hosts were unable to bag a fourth try that would have secured a bonus point.

Ben John and Dan Baker netted first-half tries for the Ospreys – the Welsh side led for the only time following Baker’s converted effort – with Rhys Webb also getting on the scoresheet later on.

With the sides scoring three tries apiece, kicking was to prove crucial, and the Irish outfit’s Craig Ronaldson tagged on 15 points, compared to the seven landed by Sam Davies.

The defeat leaves the Ospreys in seventh place, having played a greater number of games than all of those below them, bar the Newport Gwent Dragons.
