Conroy retires from inter-county duty

Shoulder injury forces veteran to call quits

Mayo's Mickey Conroy has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

Conroy, most famously used as an impact substitute for the Westerners, sustained a shoulder injury ahead of last season's All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin.

The Davitts clubman, having been omitted from boss Stephen Rochford's panel for the 2016 Championship, announced on Twitter that he has decided to call time on his Mayo duties.

"End of an era," Conroy wrote. "Great times, great memories, great friends and people met along the way.

“Best wishes to Rochie and the 2016 squad."

Conroy made multiple All-Ireland final appearances for Mayo, having taken his senior inter-county bow in 2004.
