Silviniaco Conti is only 50-50 for the 32Red King George VI Chase at Kempton on St Stephen's Day.
Winner of the race in 2013 and 2014, Silviniaco Conti will be declared for the Grade One showpiece at the five-day stage but trainer Paul Nicholls has revealed that he will only take his chance in the race if the field cuts up.
"I am going to confirm him at the five day stage and see what's in it. If they all go then he won't go," Nicholls said.
Silviniaco Conti is Nicholls only entrant in the race and the champion trainer will only allow his charge to run if he feels he has a genuine chance of winning.
"It will be the first time for a long time I won't have a runner but there is no point running if they've got no chance," he said.
"It would be fifty-fifty. If Thistlecrack didn't run and there are five or six then I might be tempted. He's won it twice and likes the track but I want to look at it first."
