Cooper suffers fractured pelvis

Gavin Sheehan also out with wrist fracture

Irish jockey Bryan Cooper faces a two-month lay-off after suffering a fractured pelvis at Punchestown on New Year's Eve.

The 24-year-old, who only recently returned to the saddle after suffering a fractured arm in October, was unseated from Arkwrisht in a beginners' chase.

"Unfortunately a CT scan has confirmed Bryan has a fractured pelvis," Adrian McGoldrick, the Turf Club’s medical officer, confirmed.

"He will be out for six to eight weeks."

Cooper was sidelined for seven months after he broke his leg at the 2014 Cheltenham Festival, having also suffered a leg fracture the previous year that kept him out for four months.

In 2016, he suffered a lacerated liver and a collapsed lung in August, as well as a fractured elbow in October.

Cooper, Gigginstown House Stud's principal rider, won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March on Don Cossack.

Cork jockey Gavin Sheehan will also be out "for a few weeks" after he suffered a broken right wrist from a fall at Newbury on Saturday.

"Gavin has broken a bone in his right wrist," trainer Warren Greatrex said.

"I'm not sure how long he'll be out for but it will be for a few weeks."
