Thibaut Courtois could make his Chelsea return for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth.
Courtois required surgery after he suffered knee ligament damage in training in September and was told his rehabilitation would take up to three months.
The goalkeeper, who has not featured for the Blues since the 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace in late August, has trained with the squad this week and manager Jose Mourinho has included him in his matchday squad for the weekend.
"Thibaut was our keeper all last season and you know how fundamental he was. It's important to have him back," Mourinho told his pre-match press conference.
When asked if Courtois would start, Mourinho added: "I've not told them so they must know first but he's in the group.
"He's has been out a long, long time, too long. So now we feel better. We have [Asmir] Begovic and Marco Amelia and now we are safe."
He went on: "To miss Thibaut Courtois for a couple of matches we knew we had good protection, but to lose him for three months - for 19 matches - without the best goalkeeper in the world, is tough for us.
"Now we are back to a situation with the best and one very good. Sooner or later, he will be my number one. If he does not play against Bournemouth he will play against Porto."
Diego Costa could also feature against Bournemouth despite his show of petulance last weekend.
Costa was named on the bench for Sunday's clash at White Hart Lane and looked far from happy as he watched from the sidelines. He subsequently threw his bib in the direction of manager Jose Mourinho in the final moments.
Mourinho has continued to play down the incident and has confirmed the striker will be in the squad on Saturday.
"Diego Costa is selected. He has been very good, it has been a good week for him. I didn't ask him how he found being dropped, but he trained very well and that is what matters to me," he said.
"There are no questions for me. He is one of the players who always tries, I don't need a reaction from him."
