West Ham have suffered a blow just over two weeks before the start of the new Premier League season with the news that defender Aaron Cresswell will miss up to four months with a knee injury.
Cresswell, who has missed just one Premier League match during the past two seasons, was injured in a challenge Karlsruher midfielder Grischa Promel in their 3-0 pre-season victory on Saturday.
The 26-year-old suffered knee ligament damage in the incident and will see a specialist in London next week to determine whether or not he requires surgery.
"Whatever course of action we decide to take, Aaron faces a period of rest, followed by treatment and rehabilitation and he will be out for a period of between three and four months," West Ham's medical chief Stijn Vandenbroucke told the club's website.
Meanwhile, the club have yet to determine the extent of the injury suffered by Manuel Lanzini, who was injured while with the Argentina squad for the Rio Olympics.
"We are in close contact with Manuel and the AFA (Argentine Football Association), who have started a late-release replacement procedure with the IOC," added Vandenbroucke.
"Until he has been assessed by the IOC, he cannot be replaced, but after this process has been completed we want him to return to England to be assessed by our own medical staff as soon as possible."
