Tyrone manager Mickey Harte will have to plan without Connor McAliskey for the entire 2017 season after his ruptured cruciate ligament injury was confirmed.
McAliskey had to be stretchered from the field during the second half of Tyrone's Dr McKenna Cup defeat to Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday and underwent scans at the Ulster Clinic on Monday.
Scan results confirmed the worst with the 26-year-old set to undergo surgery before a lengthy and rehabilitation process, which will keep him sidelined for the majority of the year.
McAliskey was Tyrone's top scorer in the 1-13 to 0-12 loss and his loss will come as a big blow to Harte as he prepares for the start of the Allianz Football League.
