Daly nominated for Clare post

Anthony Daly will face just one challenger in his bid to succeed Davy Fitzgerald as Clare senior hurling manager.

Nominations for the position closed on Monday evening with the joint ticket of Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor the only challenge to Daly.

“There are two nominations so we, the officers of the board, must now meet to finalise and crystallise our process,” Clare GAA secretary Pat Fitzgerald is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

“We did have a discussion on this matter already but we will meet again on Monday to talk through what our process will be ahead of addressing club delegates at Tuesday’s county board meeting.”

Daly, who was nominated by hic club Clarecastle, previously managed the Banner County between 2004 and 2006 and he has lined up former Clare team-mate Brian Lohan and 2001 All-Ireland-winning captain Tommy Dunne to join his backroom team.

Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in New York on November 12 live on the eir Sport pack. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport .
