Davy Fitz tips Clare to bounce back

Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald believes his side can bounce back strongly in the All Ireland qualifiers after they lost their Munster SHC semi-final to Waterford by 1-21 to 0-17.

The Deise lost to the Banner County in a National League replay decider last month but they produced a dominant display to avenge that loss with a seven-point win at Semple Stadium.

Clare were off the pace throughout and Fitzgerald had no excuses for the defeat.

“The best team won. We’ve no excuses,” he told RTÉ Sport.

“Were we at our best? I don’t know. We had a lot of wides. Clare will come back fighting, don’t have any doubt about it.

“There’s a lot more in us than that.

“It’s hard to put your finger on it [what went wrong].

“You are training all week and you think they are spot on and ready for road.

“There’s no doubt about it, the most enthusiastic team, the one that wanted it more, won.

“We had gone 13 unbeaten up until Sunday...maybe it’s no harm.”
