Day of the underdog

See some of the biggest upsets in GAA championship history this coming Wednesday, April 22nd on eir sport 1 from 7pm.

Wednesday night is GAA night on eir sport and this week’s triple helping features three huge shocks from the football championship down through the years.

First off we have Clare’s remarkable Munster SFC final victory over a Kerry team that included Jack O’Shea and Maurice Fitzgerald at the Gaelic Grounds back in 1992. They’re still talking about that one in the Banner County!

Next stop is the Connacht SFC final at Dr Hyde Park in 1994 when lowly Leitrim shocked mighty Mayo.

But the biggest shock off came at Croke Park in September 1982 as a Seamus Darby-inspired Offaly overturned a four point deficit to derail star-studded Kerry’s bid for five-in-a-row.

They’ve won championship titles since, but the hurt from this one still lingers in the Kingdom.

Join us for some fantastic GAA action from 7pm next Wednesday on eir sport 1.
