Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged with misconduct in relation to betting by the Football Association.
A worldwide ban on betting for all those involved in football came into force in 2014, while players are also prohibited from knowingly providing inside information for the purpose of betting.
Demichelis has been charged in relation to 12 offences involving matches between January 22 and 28 this year.
"It is alleged the player committed 12 breaches of FA Rule E8 concerning football matches between 22 January 2016 and 28 January 2016," a statement from the FA read.
"He has until 5pm on 5 April 2016 to respond to the charge."
Previous cases have resulted in a fine ranging from £700 to £18,000.
